Sad to say goodbye to Tachbrook Street

The little bread pedlar Kitchen is moving to Dockley Road SE16 in the next few weeks. We have been invited to open our doors for retail along side the Maltby Street artisan producers. Please visit www.maltbystreet.com for more info.

Since we switched to the delibike and reduced our range trade at Tachbrook Street has declined to point where it is no longer viable. As a result we are sad to say that we will no longer be sending the delibike over to trade at Pimlico. Instead we invite all our customers to come and see us at Maltby Street. Until we complete our move you can get our croissants and brownies from Monmouth Coffee and St. John bakery is just around the corner where you can pick up your sourdoughs etc.

Our doors at the little bread pedlar kitchen will be open to the public for retail in January 2012. We will begin to bring back some of your favourites including our spelt soda bread, eccles cakes and tarts.

We are especially sad to say goodbye to our regulars and will miss the friendly chats we’ve had together.

Thank you all so much for your custom during 2011, we hope Tachbrook Street carries on evolving into the market you all desire and also hope you can come and visit us in Bermondsey for your favorite treats!

Kindest regards,

Nichola and Martin

The little bread pedlar will be trading at Tachbrook Street market from 9am this Saturday 29th October

Great news! The stall is gone but we can confirm that we will be trading at Tachbrook St in the run up to Christmas. Our delivery bicycle has a trailer at last and we will be trailing selling straight from the delibike basket and trailer this Saturday in Pimlico. We have given up our regular pitch but will park up nearby behind John the fishmonger and John Bussey on the fruit and veg. You will be able to reach us easily via the gangway opposite Mr Fox’s household goods shop.

We will bring bread from St John bakery introducing their Rye and Soda but sadly we won’t be able to do the cherry pippin spelt soda for a while. Our production is pushed to capacity making croissants for the wholesale business and we need a new premises, more ovens and equipment before we can bring the spelt back. We hope we can reach that point early 2012. Saturdays full menu will follow in the next post. Thanks to all our Pimlico customers for your understanding during this transition. We are doing our best to keep a link to Pimlico.

Please follow us on twitter @LBPedlar for updates

August is the time for taking stock and having a look at what’s going on. Business at Tachbrook St has quietened down over the last 4 weeks as the masses clear out for their summer hols and I’ve been making the most of the spare time on my hands.
The warm weather has given a helping hand to my cultivation of a sourdough starter which I made solely from organic flour and mineral water. Last night I baked off my first batch of sourdough bread- a white with a hint of wholemeal and rye- a loaf which made me feel very proud of myself!
Aswell as the bread,(the recipe for which I’ll post on the next blog post) I’ve also been experimenting with the croissant method that I use and feel that I have made a great improvement in their texture. As if that weren’t enough to keep me busy I’m working on a formula for sourdough croissants in a bid to move the business on at some point in the future. We still hope to trade at Tachbrook St. every week but may start to focus the rest of the week on wholesale croissants and soda bread.
